Looks-maxing

Table of Contents

When it comes to looks-maxing, we must understand that there are a couple of things we should focus on. On one side, we have working out, dieting, and things of that sort. On the other, there is dressing well, taking care of your skin, hair, nails, and so on.

This post will primarily focus on the latter, and for all the other stuff like working out and dieting, you should check out my Self-Improvement Roadmap, as I go in-depth on such subjects in that post.

We will start off with dressing well, and the style that I believe you should adopt is explained in the video below.

The old-money aesthetic

Below is a quick recap of everything you should know to imitate the above-mentioned look.

One big disclaimer you should take note of is footwear. I am personally on the side of wearing barefoot shoes and for that reason, I’ve left out traditional footwear. In the recap below, you will find links to possible alternatives to regular footwear for anyone interested.

Color pallet

Fabrics

Clothing

    • 3x (1xSuit pants and 2xChinos)
    • 2x Shorts
    • 3x Polos
    • 2x Fitted T-shirts
    • 4x Shirts (2xLinen shirts and 2xOxford shirts)
    • 4x Sweater (2xWool sweater and 2xCashmere sweater)
    • 2x Wool coat (short and long)
    • 1x Suit (Black, Navy or Grey)

Accessories

    • 1x Watch
    • 2x Belt (Black and Brown)
    • 1x Sunglasses (Clubmaster,Erika or Avioator)

Hair

My opinion is that you should either go for a buzz cut or something that requires minimal maintenance. As for the facial hair do the same. Either fully shaven or a clean beard that doesn’t require too much maintenance.

The philosophy behind this is that you shouldn’t be investing so much time into your appearance. You are a man, and your appearance shouldn’t be your number one priority. The amount of effort you should use should follow the 80/20 rule, and the advice that I am giving you in this post is coherent with that rule.

Grooming

    • Keep your hair clean and cut
    • Cut your body hair once every 2-3 weeks
    • Cut your nails once every 1-2 weeks
    • Wash teeth after every meal (make sure to floss your teeth)
    • Shower at least with water whenever you are sweaty
    • Once every 1-6 months do dental plaque cleaning, depending on your need
    • Skincare (go to the section about acne)

Conclusion

It’s not just about what you wear but also about health, confidence, communication skills, and all the other things that make a person stand out. For all of the additional things you should know, follow the full roadmap where you will find advice about health, philosophy, and everything in between.
